The West End transfer of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages starts previews at the Shaftesbury Theatre on 31st August.
The first bit of casting which has been announced is that comedian, television, radio presenter and occasional singer Justin Lee Collins will play the role of Bourbon Bar owner and ageing hippy Dennis Dupree (played in the original LA stage show by Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass and in the forthcoming film by Alec Baldwin).
He has worked extensively on television including the Friday Night Project with Alan Carr. His only musical theatre credit is that for a programme on Sky One he learned the necessary skills necessary to perform on the West End stage to enable him to play Amos Hart for three performances in Chicago at the Cambridge Theatre.
Lee Collins said : “Being a fan of bands like Whitesnake, Foreigner, Journey and Bon Jovi, I couldn’t resist when I heard about the chance to appear in the show. What young lad hasn’t strummed the air guitar to the classic riffs of those poodle-haired rock bands of the 80’s? Now I’ll get to do it on stage every night".
