Hugh Jackman is about to launch his one man show on Broadway and also wants to do two or three Sunday night shows while he’s in London in March filming Les Miserables playing Jean Valjean. Details to follow soon.
Rehearsals start for the film in January and February and the director Tom Hooper is keeping his options open about whether the cast will pre-record the songs. According to Hugh Jackman “There’s the option of recording live or lip-synching and I’ve been down the lip-synching route with the video of Oklahoma! I think singing live might work better with this, but Tom won’t make a decision just yet.”
Other casting to date includes Russell Crowe as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier if she decides to do it. Seems the rumours about Emma Watson playing Cosette are incorrect. Hooper is currently looking for 17 and 18-year-olds to play the student revolutionaries rather than actors in their 20’s.
Jackman is planning to spend four or five days in London next month to start work with Hooper on the Valjean character.
