Miss Saigon Certainly Landed Last Night

I was very excited to attend the opening of Miss Saigon last night which is one of my all time favourite musicals.

The booking period has been extended until next April with producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh saying he has already recouped his 4.5 million budget,

The atmosphere in the Prince Edward was electric I lost count of the number of curtain calls the very talented and hard working cast took.

I was particularly pleased to see Simon Bowman who was the original Chris there,  and also Jonathan Pryce who still is to me the definitive Engineer.  Anyone would be hard pushed to follow these two with Bowman's vulnerability in the role and Pryce's charisma.

Well worth going to see as it has been a long time returning to the West End and well worth the wait in my opinion.

Cameron Mackintosh on Miss Saigon Opening and Matin Guerre Revival

Sir Cameron Mackintosh has just been talking to Graham Norton on BBC Radio 2 about the opening of Miss Saigon which has its first preview tonight and opens on 21st May.

He was introduced by the playing of "The Last Night of the World" sung by Simon Bowman and Lea Salonga from the original show which opened at Drury Lane back in 1989. This really is my favourite musical and I am so excited to be seeing it again in a few week's time.

Sir Cameron said it was one of the most requested shows he has ever been asked to bring back to the West End but he has had to wait for the right theatre with Jersey Boys eventually being moved to make way for it at the Prince Edward. This version has some new material with an international cast of 40 made up of 18 different nationalities.

He also confirmed that there is still a possibility of a movie being made of Miss Saigon some time in the future.

During the making of the LesMis movie the question of Martin Guerre (which opened in 1996 at the Prince Edward Theatre) came up with the result and Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil are currently working on it for a revival - hopefully next year.
